Police are looking for a 42-year-old man in connection with the beating of a clerk at a South Side convenience store.
According to police, the 54-year-old clerk was rushed to St. Elizabeth Health Center with a bloody face from a large cut above his nose, a cut on the back of his head, and a nearly severed left thumb.
There was no update on his condition as of late Friday afternoon.
According to police, the attacker walked into the Gina’s Drive Thru on Glenwood Avenue at 7:40 p.m. and walked to the counter with a peach soda to purchase. The victim told the man he needed to either pay for the drink or step aside so other customers could make purchases.
The victim said the attacker told him he did not like being spoken to that way. The victim came from behind the counter and a fight ensued with the clerk being repeatedly beaten in the face and knocked to the ground.
Reports say the attacker ran off with the clerk’s wallet containing $50, credit cards and a driver’s license.
