POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Liberty, Girard and Hubbard:

LIBERTY

Oct. 7

Drugs: Ebony D. Owens, 34, of 1600 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty, faced misdemeanor charges of trafficking in marijuana and endangering children after police said they walked by her motel room and smelled suspected marijuana. Several bags of the drug, as well as juveniles, were in the room, a report said.

Theft: A $135 football helmet was removed from a front porch in the 500 block of Ventura Drive.

Theft/drugs: Sincearae Opatken, 47, of 1623 Florence Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft as well as possession of crack cocaine and drug-abuse instruments after several items had been stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. Two grams of suspected crack and a syringe were found, police said.

Fraud: Police responded to someone attempting to cash a stolen check at a Belmont Avenue business before charging Allison Harris, 24, of 1534 Bennington Ave., Youngstown, with one felony count each of theft and forgery, as well as 24-year-old Michelle A. Scott, 837 Plazaview Drive, Youngstown, with a misdemeanor theft count. Two checks, including one for $150, had been reported stolen, a report said.

Arrest: Officers responding to threats in the 3000 block of North Gate Road charged 49-year-old Glenn M. Mosely, 3031 North Gate, Liberty, with obstructing official business after saying Mosely provided a false name and Social Security number to hide the fact he was wanted on a warrant.

Theft: A man stole auto parts and chemicals from Dollar General, 4425 Logan Way.

Theft: A woman reported her wallet stolen at a Belmont Avenue gas station.

Theft: Copper piping, scrap material, power tools and building supplies were removed from a home in the 100 block of Mansell Drive.

Oct. 8

Arrest: A traffic stop in the 4400 block of Belmont Avenue resulted in 24-year-old David A. Riehl Jr.’s arrest. Riehl, of 855 Dravis St., Girard, was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Theft/disrupting public services: Roughly 250 feet of phone wire was cut and stolen near Logan Gate Road, causing an interruption of service to residents in the area.

Drugs: Police responding to suspicious activity in the 200 block of Colonial Drive charged Khamray J. Bonner, 18, of 2930 Biscayne Drive, Liberty, with trafficking in and possession of marijuana as well as possession of criminal tools, and 19-year-old Richard D. Sutton Jr., 216 Colonial, Liberty, with trafficking in marijuana and possession of dangerous drugs. Among contraband found were two bags of suspected marijuana, a digital scale and pills in Sutton’s sock.

Oct. 9

Arrest: Youngstown police handed Jerome Harris, 57, to township authorities. Harris, of 418 Emerson Ave., Youngstown, was accused of failing to appear in court.

Arrest: A traffic stop near Motor Inn Drive led to the arrest of 23-year-old John D. Moran Jr., 24 McDonald Ave., Niles, on charges of having expired license plates and no operator’s license. Moran also was wanted on a warrant.

Assault: Authorities responding to a possible attempted stabbing in the 200 block of Church Hill Road charged 53-year-old Richard L. Bennett, 203 Church Hill, Liberty, with aggravated assault, obstructing justice and resisting arrest. Bennett was accused of threatening a neighbor with a folding knife and struggling with police.

Oct. 10

Arrest: Police responding to a vehicular accident in the 1400 block of Townsend Avenue charged 22-year-old Kiara Sharper, 1465 Townsend, with driving under the influence and having no operator’s license after saying she had struck a utility pole.

Criminal damaging: A man who owns nine acres on Sodom-Hutchings Road discovered ruts and other damage to the property, apparently caused by four-wheel vehicles.

Assault: A Struthers man approached police with a bloody nose and a swollen eye to report he had been punched and assaulted in the 3000 block of North Gate Road.

Drugs: A Biscayne Drive man said he found a bag of suspected marijuana seeds in his yard.

Oct. 11

Assault: A Girard man at a Motor Inn Drive motel reported having been punched in the face, which caused him to fall and injure his right hip.

Assault: Officers charged 42-year-old Anissa M. Boss, 4591 Michigan Ave., Youngstown, with simple assault after a fight with another woman in the 3400 block of Belmont Avenue. The victim sought medical treatment for injuries suffered in the attack, a report showed.

GIRARD

Oct. 7

Domestic violence: Police charged 29-year-old Aaron W. Slater, 974 N. Highland Ave., Girard, with the crime after Slater’s wife alleged he had struck her face after becoming enraged when she asked him to clean a room in the home.

Burglary: To a residence in the 600 block of Forsythe Avenue through a side door. A $250 laptop computer was missing.

Oct. 8

Aggravated menacing: A Gordon Street man reported getting 30 unwanted calls, most containing various threats.

Criminal damaging: Someone on a four-wheel vehicle damaged several greens and fairways at Mahoning Country Club Inc., 710 E. Liberty St.

Oct. 9

Theft: A charge was pending against a woman after energy drinks and two bottles of cough syrup were stolen from Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St.

Assault: A woman at a Girard High School football game told police another woman charged toward and wrestled with her during an argument.

Aggravated menacing: A Parkview Avenue man said a neighbor challenged him to fight, then threatened to kill him during a dispute regarding where the neighbor had parked his vehicle.

Oct. 10

Theft: A Walnut Street man noticed three unauthorized withdrawals to his account totaling $460.

Assaults: Two people reported having been assaulted by each other in the 300 block of Taylor Avenue.

Theft: An East Main Street man reported an XBox 360 system and various accessories stolen.

Criminal damaging: Someone cut the outer cover to a shelter area a South Market Street man had built.

Criminal damaging: BBs were likely used to shoot several windows to a business in the 600 block of North State Street.

Oct. 11

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into and damaged part of a home in the 200 block of East Kline Street before taking copper piping.

Theft: An Xbox system and video cables were stolen from a residence in the 600 block of Trumbull Court.

HUBBARD

Oct. 7

Criminal damaging: Someone threw rocks and broke a garage window at St. Patrick Church, 225 N. Main St.

Breaking and entering/menacing: A woman in the 200 block of North Main Street reported having been threatened, and that her apartment was entered. Nothing appeared to be missing, though.

Fraud: Bad checks were presented at Hubbard Gas & Mini Mart, 175 Youngstown-Hubbard Road.

Attempted fraud: A Jackson Street man reported getting a call claiming he had won $1 million but first needed to send in money, which he did not.

Oct. 8

Burglary: A Grandview Avenue couple told police a man around age 30 with a flashlight entered the rear of their residence and, when confronted, stated he had an appointment to look at the home.

Vehicle theft: A Yahama motorcycle was stolen in the 100 block of Youngstown-Hubbard Road.

Harassment: An East Water Street man reported receiving a threatening text message.

Recovered property: A police officer at a Youngstown State University football game found a purse belonging to a Meadowland Drive woman.

Oct. 9

Theft: A registration sticker was stolen off a vehicle in the 20 block of Myron Street.
