In celebration of the 86th anniversary of Pilgrim Baptist Church, 67 McClure St., the Total Praise and Worship Choir, directed by Charles Robinson, will host a musical at 5 p.m. Oct. 22.
Special guests will be The Disciples, Karen Fears, Phillips Chapel Male Chorus, Johnny Wallace, Phyllis Weeden-Oliver and others. The theme for the anniversary is “The Evangelistic Church is Dressed for Success.”
The celebration will continue at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 23 with the Rev. Julius Davis and congregation from Friendship Baptist Church in Girard as guests.
All events are free and open to all.

Labyrinth walk

Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center will host the last labyrinth walk of the season from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Ignatian spirituality

LightWorks is a group introduction to Ignatian spirituality and the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola. Each session offers presentations on prayer and practices, with time for reflection and sharing, in order to deepen one’s relationship with Christ in the world.
Sessions will be from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 20 and 27 and Dec. 4 and 11 at the Ursuline Center, 4250 Shields Road.
St. Ignatius, as a layperson, developed what he called “spiritual exercises,” to help people find wholeness and happiness by living according to their true purpose in God.

Memorial Mass

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments granted an indult Sept. 6 to the Diocese of Youngstown to insert into its particular liturgical calendar an optional memorial Mass of Blessed John Paul II that may be celebrated on Oct. 22 of each year beginning in 2011.
The same indult grants to the newly merged parishes of Christ our King, St. Joseph and St. Pius X in Warren, the name of Blessed John Paul II Parish.
In special observance of the recent beautification of John Paul II, Bishop George V. Murry also has designated the fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Jan. 29, 2012, for the priests of the diocese to celebrate with the faithful a Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of the new Blessed John Paul II.
Dinner, discussion

Is honesty always the best policy? What about when no harm is done to another by a less than honest statement? Do we live in a culture of dishonesty? How can we reduce dishonesty in our homes, schools and workplaces? These and other questions will be the basis for a dinner and discussion Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Girard, 890 Churchill Road. Supper begins at 5 p.m. and discussion at 6.

Liberty Bible Church, 2111 Sodom-Hutchings Road, will sponsor a fall family festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22. Guest speaker will be Eric Hassler, a missionary to Trinidad. There also will be a chili cookoff, games, family photos, petting zoo, contests and food.

Terry and Diane McCabe will minister in song today at Second Chance Community Outreach Ministry, 1747 S. Raccoon Road Suite No. 1.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. with music at 6. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided.
The McCabes’ performance is part of an ongoing Christian music ministry series being offered at Second Chance, which provides free hot meals to the community the third Saturday of each month and will soon be opening a food pantry and clothing closet.
The McCabes, a husband and wife duo, have recorded several CDs featuring their original songs and serve as worship leaders at Austintown Baptist Church.
Flo Gadd, who serves on the worship team at Hope Baptist Church in Girard and as director of The Guitar Ministry, also will share a song.

Art retreat planned

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality will offer an “Art Retreat: Discovering God in the Creating of Mandalas!” from 7 p.m. Thursday through Oct. 23.
Mandalas are circular forms that can be symbols of life’s journey and tools for inner insight. Using different media, participants will create mandalas and use them as a resource for prayer.
Sister Paulette Kirschensteiner, who has taught art students from kindergarten through college, will lead the retreat. Materials will be supplied. No previous art experiences are necessary.

The American Clergy Leadership Conference, United Federation of Churches, will sponsor an interfaith prayer breakfast at 11 a.m. Oct. 22 at Celebrity Fashions Hall, 2520 South Ave. Speaker will be Bishop Lillie B. North, pastor of Friends House Chapel Church.
There is a $10 donation; reservations are due by Wednesday by calling 330-747-3610. A percentage offunds from the breakfast will go to the chapel for repairs.

The Rev. Andrew Gromm, pastor of St.Michael Orthodox Church, 127 Steel St., teaches the Gospel and church history from the ancient Eastern Christian perspective. “On Earth As In Heaven” is the name of the radio show airing at noon Saturdays on WSOM AM 600.
Father Gromm leads a Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at St. Michael Orthodox Church and focuses on early Christian interpretation of Scripture, which represents the original Apostolic message.
