A 58-year-old Mahoning County woman has pleaded innocent to 28 charges alleging she knowingly made a false statement regarding a variety of prescription drugs between March 2010 and April 2011.

Mary M. Brown of North Palmyra Road, Canfield, appeared in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court on Thursday after being secretly indicted on the charges — illegal processing of drug documents, a charge that involves creating a false prescription.

Judge John M. Stuard set bond at $5,000.

Brown’s indictment lists the drugs involved as Digoxin, Atenolol, Lipitor and Crestor. Digoxin is used to treat heart conditions.

Atenolol is used to treat cardiovascular diseases, and the last two are cholesterol-lowering drugs.

The Trumbull County Prosecutor’s office said no prosecutor was assigned to the case, and no information was available on the nature of the alleged offenses.

Each charge carries a penalty of up to a year in prison.
