Richard M. Pellin Jr. of Diamond, convicted of felony complicity to theft in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court last month, has been fired from his job as dispatch supervisor for the Trumbull County 911 center in Howland.

Trumbull County commissioners approved his firing Thursday. County officials said a felony conviction “constitutes grounds for removal from county employment.”

Pellin worked for the county starting Dec. 22, 2008, and made $17.21 per hour at the time of his termination.

Pellin will be sentenced at 11 a.m. Nov. 16.

Prosecutors said Pellin, 38, and his mother, Vanessa Pellin, 56, of Ellsworth, diverted $91,261 from the Pellin EMS ambulance company to a Pennsylvania bank account. Richard M. Pellin Jr. is a former owner of the ambulance company.

In August, Vanessa Pellin received three years’ probation and 200 hours of community service after she pleaded guilty to one count of theft. A judge ordered her to make restitution of any stolen funds.
