Grand opening party at Stage Door
The Stage Door Fine and Performing Arts School is hosting its Grand Opening Party on Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at their Poland location, Town One Square Plaza, 23 W. McKinley Way, Poland.
The school invites you to meet the staff, enjoy refreshments, listen to a voice ensemble and get your face painted. The dance department will be teaching the “Thriller Dance” and is offering a grand prize to the scariest dressed zombie.
The Stage Door offers all forms of dance, acting classes, voice classes and art classes. The school also offers Zumba.

Spaghetti dinner set for Oct. 23
The St. Charles Church Knights of Columbus Council No. 11915 will host a spaghetti dinner on Oct. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the St. Charles Parish Center, Route 224 in Boardman.
Spaghetti dinners will be $7 and Chicken Parmesan dinners will be $8. Dinner will include a salad, rolls and butter, cake and a beverage. Carry outs are available.
Proceeds from the dinner and basket raffle will benefit the Diocesan Pro-Life organization, “Men and Women United for Life.”
Free Pumpkin Hunt set at DQ
Two Dairy Queen locations are hosting a free Pumpkin Hunt for ages 2 to 9. The Austintown location, 146 N. Canfield Niles Road, will host its Pumpkin Hunt today at noon. The Cornersburg location, 3555 S. Meridian Road, will host a Pumpkin Hunt on Saturday at noon.
Activities include decorating pumpkins for free with any DQ purchase, while supplies last. Also, there will be a costume contest prior to the hunt.

Green Team Workshop
The Recycling Division of Mahoning County invites science and social studies teachers grades third through eighth to “Windows on Waste” Teachers Workshop on Tuesday from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at McMahon Hall at the Metro Park Farm on Route 46 in Canfield.
During the workshop, teachers will become detectives in the “CSI Mahoning County” activity, act out the “History of Trash” from prehistoric man to modern times and make paper quilts showing various time periods in the history of the United States.
Teachers will receive a certificate for four IPD’s for the workshop and the list of state standards that match the activities.

Chaney Class of ‘76 reunion
The Chaney High School Class of 1976 will hold its 35-year reunion from 7 to 11 p.m. on Nov. 26 at the Regency House, 3704 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. Cost is $35 per person. Torch Club meeting
The Youngstown Torch Club will meet for dinner on Monday at 6 p.m. in Bresnahan Suites I and II in Kilcawley Center on Youngstown State University’s campus. The speaker for the night is Janet Moy-LaMonica, a retired library director of the Henderson Memorial Public Library in Jefferson. She will discuss her experiences using hypnosis to effect a pain-free recovery from double hip replacement surgery.
Dinner for nonmembers is $18.

Third annual Candlelight Memorial set
Gianna’s Light, an organization aiming to bring comfort and hope to families who have suffered the loss of their baby, is hosting the third annual Candlelight Memorial for National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance day today from 6:30 to 8:30.
The memorial will take place on the Green in Canfield. Candles will be lit from 7 to 8 p.m. to join in the worldwide Wave of Light.
The goal of this day is to not only remember babies lost to miscarriage, stillbirth, ectopic pregnancy and neonatal death, but to let others know that they are not alone and do not have to suffer this unimaginable tragedy in silence.

Career center salon opens
The Mahoning County Career and Technical Center salon is now open to the public. Salon hours through May are Tuesday through Friday, 8:30-10:30 a.m. by appointment only.
The students offer haircuts, hairstyles, perms, relaxers, facials, hair removal, hair color and manicures. All services are performed by students under the supervision of their instructor. Prices start at just $6.

Investigate the Millstones of Mill Creek
Joe Hannibal of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History will chronicle his study of historic millstones along Mill Creek and other streams in the Western Reserve on Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. Hannibal will share his discoveries during an indoor presentation and finish with a moderate, 4-mile hike to Lanterman’s Mill to view the millstones. Take a Pumpkin Walk at Fellows Riverside Gardens
Fellows Riverside Gardens will host a pumpkin walk tomorrow from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Harvest decorations will be on display and refreshments and entertainment will be available at the Davis Center after the stroll.
Carve pumpkins for Fellows Riverside Gardens
Fellows Riverside Gardens will host a pumpkin carving event from 8:30 to 4 p.m. today. The pumpkins will be displayed at the garden’s Pumpkin Walk Oct. 16. Carving will take place in the Service Building area and carving tools will be available for use. Wear warm layers.
Mooney hosts Parent Information Night
Cardinal Mooney High School, 25454 Erie St., will host a Parent Information Night on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Parents of seventh and eighth-grade students considering enrolling their sons or daughters are invited to attend.

Tour Trees at the Gardens
Fellows Riverside Gardens is offering a leisurely walk in the gardens to admire the autumn splendor on Oct. 23 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A guide will point out highlights while sharing anecdotes and history with an emphasis on trees. Sign in at the facility’s information desk on the day of the tour.
Decorate tiny pumpkins at MetroParks Farm
Carve and decorate mini pumpkins at MetroParks farm tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. Guests can make a special pumpkin and take a guided tractor-wagon ride through the farm. Tractor-wagon leaves every half hour.

Library Teen Read Week author visits
Well-known young adult author, Sharon Flake, will make a special appearance to the Poland Library on Monday at 10 a.m. Flake, author of “The Skin I’m In” will talk about a variety of topics such as the day-to-day life of a writer, the writing process, self-esteem, authorship as a career and more. She will also be answering questions and signing autographs.

Library helps babies bond with books
The Poland branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host “Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books” for babies 6-23 months on Oct. 19 and 26 at 10 a.m.
The program includes developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Pittsburgh ‘Rivers Casino’ bus trip
The Boardman Rotary Relay for Life team is sponsoring a bus trip to Rivers Casino on Nov. 12. All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society.
The cost of the trip is $30 and you receive $15 in free play, plus a $5 food voucher. Seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The bus will leave from behind St. Nicholas Hall in Struthers at 11 a.m. and return at 7 p.m.
