Home Savings Charitable Foundation on Thursday presented $5,000 to Compass Family & Community Services, a newly formed agency resulting from the merger in July of the former Burdman Group Inc. and Family Service Agency.
The money will be used to help upgrade the agency’s IT and communications systems and to integrate the two sets of data, phone and computer systems as a result of the merger, said Joseph F. Caruso, agency president and chief executive officer.
Compass Family & Community Service programs serve, on average, some 7,600 people per year, from infancy through their senior years, in Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana and Jefferson counties.
Lawyer appointed
WARREN
Private attorney John Fowler has been appointed to represent Felicia Beemer in the criminal case charging her with raping her 1-year-old daughter during a visit with the girl at the Trumbull County Children Services Board.
Judge W. Wyatt McKay assigned Fowler to the case Wednesday during Beemer’s first pretrial hearing in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. Beemer, 21, and her husband, Cody Beemer, 22, are each charged in the alleged July incident. They face similar charges in the alleged rape of an 18-month-old boy at a home on Elm Road in June or July.
The Trumbull County office of the Ohio Public Defender may end up representing Cody Beemer, but that will be determined during a hearing Tuesday before Judge Andrew Logan.
The public defender’s office was unable to represent both Beemers because of a potential conflict of interest, officials said.
