Brier Hill plaque project completed

YOUNGSTOWN

The Brier Hill Memorial Tribute Plaque project spearheaded by Tony Trolio in October 2010 has been completed.

The purpose of the plaque was to honor those who called Brier Hill their home in the early 1900s to mid-’50s. More than 125 families responded and paid $100 to have their family listed.

The unveiling and blessing of the tribute plaque will take place at 5:15 p.m. Oct. 29 at St. Anthony Church, 1125 Turin Ave., after a 4 p.m. memorial Mass.

A social hour at 6 in DeMarinis Hall will precede a special presentation dinner at 7. Cost for the dinner is $25. There will be a special presentation made at the dinner, and music will be provided by Dom Tocco. Because of the hall size, tickets are limited to the first 200 responses. To obtain tickets call 330-757-2779.

This event brings the tribute to the neighborhood and its residents full cycle with two books written, four historic road signs proclaiming Brier Hill as Youngstown’s first settlement for the Italian immigrants and finally the memorial plaque.

Those not able to attend the Mass or dinner can still view the plaque, which will be installed next to the parish’s cornerstone on the outside of the church, anytime after the event.
