Boardman senior Jake Fait shot a 5-over 77 at Thursday’s Division I district golf tournament at Pine Hills Golf Club, barely missing out on a state tournament berth.
Fait bogeyed the final two holes — both par 5s — and his total was one stroke back of Massillon Jackson junior Nick Colangelo, who shot 76 and defeated St. Edward sophomore Joey Krecic and Tallmadge senior Matt Shomo in a one-hole playoff to earn the fourth and final individual qualifying spot.
Aurora senior Bud Radis (70), St. Edward senior Brian Bir (72) and Strongsville senior Paul Minko (75) also earned qualifying spots.
Canfield sophomore Dominic Carano, the area’s only other competitor, shot 81.
Stow won the team title with a 297, while Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit was second, Cleveland St. Ignatius third and Medina fourth.
No area teams qualified out of sectionals.
