Competitive Edge Offers Concussion Testing

With fall sports season kicking into high gear, Competitive Edge Sports Medicine offers a baseline concussion testing tool to evaluate an athlete’s condition and track recovery for safe return to play.

The ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) test is the first, most-widely used, and most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. ImPACT measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning, including attention span, working memory, sustained and selective attention time, response variability, nonverbal problem solving, and reaction time. This type of concussion assessment can also help objectively measure symptoms; measure verbal and visual memory, process speed and reaction time; and assist clinicians and athletic trainers in making difficult return-to-play decisions.

Competitive Edge certified athletic trainers administer the 20-minute test for athletes 12 years of age and older at St. Joseph Outpatient Rehabilitation, Hunters Square, 8720 East Market St., Warren. To schedule an appointment for an ImPACT baseline test, call 330-856-1520.
