During its third annual Miracles and Promises Radiothon, Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman shared stories of thriving patients and programs that benefit the Mahoning Valley. To celebrate, the hospital welcomed the community to a Fun Fest on Sept. 24.
“Today is all about providing family fun, celebrating our fundraising, and letting the community learn a little more about us and what we do,” said the hospital’s director of development, JoAnn Stock. “The community has been very generous in supporting us during the radiothon, and we’re proud to say that all of the money will stay here in the Valley,” she added.
The Fun Fest featured visits from the Boardman police and fire department and the Youngstown Bomb Squad’s robot also made an appearance. Guests could decorate doughnuts at a Dunkin’ Donuts station and sit behind the wheel of a Wal-Mart truck. Free eye and medical screenings were available and kids could bandage up stuffed animals with hospital professionals at the Teddy Bear clinic.
Crafts, tattoos and face painting were offered and guests decorated the sidewalk with chalk, leaving messages of thank you and celebration to the facility.
“We want to spotlight our patients, services we provide and our wonderful neighbors here at the Beeghly Campus. Our Fun Fest is a great thank you to everyone,” shared Stock.
