Tolls will increase on Ohio Turnpike
Tolls will increase on Ohio Turnpike
BEREA
An Ohio Turnpike overseer indicates tolls will go up Jan. 1, despite his predecessor’s call for a freeze.
Turnpike Commission Chairman Jerry Hruby says the increase has been budgeted for and is necessary.
The Plain Dealer of Cleveland reports the previous chairman, Joseph Balog, said in June that rates should be held steady next year for users of the E-ZPass electronic toll system. He said that would give motorists a break during a tough economy and satisfy truckers.
But Hruby says the freeze idea found no support during a recent commission meeting.
When the toll hike takes effect, a car making the trip across the full, 241-mile length of the turnpike will pay $11.25 with E-ZPass, up from 10.25. Truck rates are substantially higher.
