OK given to seek gas, oil deposits

Township trustees gave tentative approval for a seismic survey company to travel two township roads and search for natural-gas and oil deposits.

A representative with Precision Geophysical, based in Millersburg, Ohio, said heavy trucks would be used for the survey and the township would have the possibility of benefiting in the future from any wells found now.

At a regular meeting this week, trustees set a $50,000 bond for each road, Arrel and Bedford roads, used by the company and gave approval pending a final review of the resolution by the township’s attorney.

Trustees also heard from Delores Macciomei, of Circle Drive, who said she and her 20-some neighbors need help getting access to sewers.

She said surrounding streets, such as Riverside and Dunkin drives, do have sewer.

“Replacing a septic [system] is a fortune,” said Macciomei, who has lived in the township for 31 years.

“People are panicking. I might have to make an outhouse,” she said.

Trustee Mark Naples said the township will ask engineering firm MS Consultants Inc., about the sewer system in that area and see if there are any grants available to help with the potential project.

“It takes a while,” Naples said of sewer projects.

He referenced the decades-old South Struthers Sewer Interceptor project, which is just now under construction on the east part of the township.

In other business, trustees:

Set trick-or-treat hours as 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31.

Announced a holiday gift and decoration “drop and shop” recycling project in collaboration with Struthers, which will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 5 at Mauthe Park.

Approved the purchase of up to three computers not to exceed $3,600 in total cost to replace zoning department computers that are more than seven years old.
