Not-guilty plea entered in slaying of Ohio athlete
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Not-guilty pleas have been entered for a man charged with murdering a Central State University football player outside a southwest Ohio nightclub.
Thirty-year-old Jason Shern is charged with fatally shooting 21-year-old Kordero Hunter in Dayton on Sept. 23. A judge entered a not-guilty plea today for Shern on the murder charge and on felonious assault and weapons charges. Shern stood mute as the pleas were entered.
Shern’s attorney did not immediately return calls.
The Montgomery County prosecutor’s office says Shern shot Hunter outside the nightspot after a fight inside involving bar patrons. Authorities say Shern also fired at the bar, wounding two people.
Shern is in jail with bond set at $1 million.
Hunter, of South Holland, Ill., was a sophomore defensive back at the university in Wilberforce.
