Man indicted on charges he firebombed tavern

BRADFORD, Pa. (AP) — A man jailed on state charges that he firebombed a crowded northwestern Pennsylvania bar will instead be tried in federal court.

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted 42-year-old Damon Leroy Kayes, of Bradford, on charges he threw a burning bottle of fuel at the Players Downtown bar in his hometown, about 130 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

Kayes has been held in the McKean County Jail since he was arrested for the Sept. 9 incident, but District Attorney Ray Learn says those charges will be withdrawn and the case taken over by federal authorities.

Kayes attorney did not immediately return a call for comment Wednesday.

The Bradford Era reports Kayes allegedly bombed the bar shortly after he was asked to leave for being too intoxicated. None of the approximately 60 people in the bar was hurt.
