YOUNGSTOWN

Mahoning Valley firefighters and We Are Ohio are complaining that a pro-state Issue 2 organization improperly used footage on the latter’s television commercials.

Marlene Quinn of Cincinnati spoke against Issue 2 in a We Are Ohio commercial, praising firefighters for saving her great-granddaughter from a fire. Building a Better Ohio, a pro-Issue 2 group, began airing commercials Tuesday with Quinn, without her permission.

The TV commercials make it sound as if Quinn supports Issue 2 when she doesn’t.

“I think it’s dishonest and downright deceitful that they would use footage of me to try to play tricks and fool voters,” she said.

If Issue 2 is approved on the Nov. 8 ballot, it would restrict collective-bargaining rights for public workers, including firefighters.

Pleads innocent

WARREN

Christopher Coudriet, 25, of Robbins Avenue, Niles, pleaded innocent to breaking and entering and resisting arrest Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court after Warren police captured him in a house on Niles Road.

Police were called to 1464 Niles Road early Monday for a burglary in progress. Officer David Weber was close by and responded in about 30 seconds, seeing a man run across the street and into 1464 Niles Road.

When other officers arrived, three entered the home while two others outside observed Coudriet jump out of the second-floor window, jump up and start running.

Weber pursued Coudriet on foot to 1062 East Avenue SE, where Weber used his stun gun on Coudriet twice to bring him under control and make the arrest.

Wage increases

Youngstown

About 10 city-school kitchen employees are getting wage increases.

The school board Tuesday approved the raises for elementary kitchen workers from $7.93 per hour to $8.30 per hour and for administrative kitchen workers from $8.51 per hour to $9.98 per hour.

The workers are nonunion and between 2005 and 2009 received no wage increases. Their wages increased 1 percent in 2010, but officials said they still earn less than union employees.

Also, the school board passed a resolution in opposition of Ohio House Bill 136 which would expand the state voucher program.
