Youngstown school board approves slight wage hike for kitchen workers

YOUNGSTOWN — About 10 city-school kitchen employees are getting wage increases.

The school board this afternoon approved the raises for elementary kitchen workers from $7.93 per hour to $8.30 per hour and for administrative kitchen workers from $8.51 per hour to $9.98 per hour.

The workers are nonunion and between 2005 and 2009 received no wage increases. Their wages increased 1 percent in 2010, but officials said they still earn less than union employees.

Also, the school board passed a resolution in opposition of Ohio House Bill 136 which would expand the state voucher program.
