Haircut assaults put glare on Ohio Amish communitys
BERGHOLZ, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio sheriff says three men suspected of assaulting fellow Amish by cutting their beards will be brought to the county jail to face charges.
The three men had a hearing in Jefferson County in eastern Ohio today on warrants charging them with kidnapping and burglary.
Sheriff Timothy Zimmerly in Holmes County says he’s sending deputies to pick the three up from the jail in Steubenville, about two hours away.
Zimmerly says he also expects two more arrests in the case, most likely this week.
Zimmerly’s county has the world’s largest Amish settlement. He says such attacks are rare in the peace-loving community.
