Who is Cal Thomas to lecture?

The Sept. 30 article by Cal Thomas regarding President Obama and his position regarding blacks was very disturbing to me.

First of all, his comments were disrespectful and mostly negative toward the president. It appears that he thinks most black people have no intelligence. He is telling us who to vote for, when and why.

Why is it implied that with President Obama being a black president he is only responsible for the blacks in this country? What does it take for Thomas and others to realize he is the president of every one in this country, regardless of race?

As far as blacks being jobless, poor, uneducated and undereducated, we only make up a minority of citizens in this country. There are many jobless, poor, uneducated people in this country. Cal and Gov. John Kasich have the same apparent agenda: send our children to charter schools, which is a form of segregation and not quality education. Many charter schools are in academic crisis and are not monitored the same as public schools.

Sending them to private school is a big joke. Most private schools screen their applicants, so how many black students are they going to accept? If Cal is so concerned about blacks, why don’t he and his rich constituents fund schooling and find jobs for us. All he is concerned with is getting the president out of office.

Our people should get out, vote and try to stop the apparent racism in this nation.

Changing her mind about shale

I was all for Marcellus Shale gas drilling until I attended a meeting where two farmers had first hand experiences with the devastating effects the process had on their lives. According to both farmers, their property value decreased by thousands of dollars, the toxic waste seeped into water supplies on their land causing vegetation and cattle to die; drinking water in the homes was the color of iced tea.

An enormous amount of water is needed in this process and the toxic backwash evaporates into the environment causing respiratory, neurological, cardiac and skin issues.

Although this could be a boon to our economy and individuals, the risks seem overwhelming. Could there be a safer way to extract this gas supply?
