Paul McCartney weds for a third time

LONDON

Paul McCartney married American Nancy Shevell in London on Sunday.

For McCartney, 69, the low-key ceremony at Westminster register office at Marylebone Town Hall in central London was a trip down memory lane, since he married Linda Eastman, his first wife — who was also American — at the same place in 1969. She died in 1998 from breast cancer.

As he emerged with his new wife on his arm under a grey London sky, friends and onlookers cheered, showering the beaming couple with flowers and rose petals.

Cameramen and fans had been waiting since early morning to catch a glimpse of the former Beatle and Shevell, 51, whom he met in 2007.

Shevell, who was married to a U.S. lawyer for 20 years, is heiress to a New Jersey haulage firm valued at $340 million, according to media reports.

McCartney, according to the 2011 Sunday Times Rich List, is Britain’s fourth-wealthiest man, with an estimated fortune of nearly $800 million.

Shevell’s wedding dress was designed by Stella McCartney, the groom’s daughter.

Ex-Weezer bassist dies

CHICAGO

Former Weezer bass player Mikey Welsh, who also found success in his second career as an artist, died in a Chicago hotel room, police said Sunday.

Chicago police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said Welsh was supposed to check out of the Raffaello Hotel at 1 p.m. Saturday. When he didn’t, hotel staff went to his room, entered it and found him unconscious and not breathing, Kubiak said.

The cause of death was undetermined pending toxicology tests, according to an autopsy performed Sunday by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. Test results could take up to six weeks, authorities said. Kubiak said there’s nothing to indicate foul play.

Welsh, 40, of Burlington, Vt., performed with Weezer from 1998 to 2001, leaving after suffering a nervous breakdown, according to the band’s website.

Zsa Zsa will undergo operation at hospital

los angeles

Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband says the 94-year-old actress will undergo an operation at a Los Angeles hospital where she also is being treated for an infection.

Frederic Prinz von Anhalt said Sunday that doctors at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center planned to reattach a tube in Gabor’s stomach that became loose and led to bleeding. The celebrity socialite was rushed to the hospital Saturday.

Von Anhalt says Gabor has opened her eyes but is not speaking or responding. He says doctors are waiting for antibiotics to take effect on the infection.

He calls his wife a “fighter” and says he’s “very optimistic.”

Gabor has been hospitalized repeatedly since falling out of bed and breaking her hip in July 2010. She had a leg amputated in January.
