Thieves steal bridge

State police are looking for someone who stole a bridge.
Police said the bridge was stolen from a wooded area by railroad tracks at Covert’s Crossing in North Beaver Township.
It was a 50-foot by 20-foot bridge made of corrugated steel, a steel web decking and steel I-beam supports. It was worth around $100,000.
It was stolen sometime between Sept. 27 and Oct. 5. Police believe the thief used a torch to cut it apart.

Belle Vista Avenue between McCollum Road and Ridgelawn will be closed Monday for two weeks for replacement and repair of waterlines. Local detours will be posted, the department of public works said.
Reporter sets speech
ALLIANCE
Marc Kovac, statehouse bureau chief for Dix Newspapers and statehouse correspondent for The Vindicator, will speak at the University of Mount Union’s Continued Learning Program at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the East Room of the Hoover-Price Campus Center.
Kovac will discuss covering politics at the Ohio Statehouse and Senate Bill 5, the collective-bargaining law to be decided by voters in November.
Flu shots in Niles

Niles City Health Department, 34 W. State St., will offer flu shots for adults and children.
Flu shots for those 18 and older will be given from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the health department, 34 W. State St.
Participants must provide Medicare, Medicaid or Anthem Senior Advantage identification cards. For all other HMOs, including Medicare Complete and Aetna Medicare, the cost will be $20.
Flu shots for children, 6 months to 18 years old, will be given from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at Niles Senior Citizen Center, 14 E. State St.
The cost will be $3. There is no charge for those on Medicaid or those without health insurance. No appointments are required.
Sports leagues
YOUNGSTOWN
YMCA of Youngstown fall youth sports leagues are getting under way.
The Youth Fundamental Basketball League kicks off next Saturday with the league’s first practice and runs through Dec. 17. The league is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 15. Fees are $48 for Y members and $68 for all others.
Also, the Y is offering a Fall Sunday Team “Select” Basketball League, which begins with practices on Oct. 16 and ends with the league tournament Dec. 18. This league is open to boys in grades four through six and girls in grades five and six. Fees are $42 for Y members and $57 for others.

Gambling pleas
NILES
Two men have pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor gambling charge that followed an investigation at R&R Video, 28 E. Park Ave.
Kenneth E. Fox, 55, of Williamson Street, Mineral Ridge, and David W. Mullins, 53, of Indian Trail, Warren, entered no contest pleas Friday to operating a gambling house in Niles Municipal Court.
They were found guilty and fined $250 plus court costs.
They were cited this week by Niles police after an investigation that included undercover officers playing the games. Armed with a search warrant, police seized 15 computers from the business that had been hooked up to a gambling network, police said.
