The Society of St. John Chrysostom, Youngstown-Warren Chapter, will host Jack Figel, national president of the society, during a meeting at 6 p.m. Monday. He will review the 15-year history of the Orientale Lumen Conferences.
The society is an ecumenical organization of Catholic and Orthodox clergy and laity.

Anniversary events

Berean Fellowship Church, 1321 Lansdowne Blvd., will mark its 50th anniversary with a fellowship meal from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today at McGuffey Centre, 1649 Jacobs Road. Donations will be accepted.
The celebration will continue at a worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The topic is “They are Mounting Up.” Host pastor is Alice Bell Parkman.
CROP Walk

The 2011 CROP Walk is planned Sunday with walkers meeting at the gathering room of Park Vista Retirement Community, 1216 Fifth Ave., where the two walks will begin and end.
The five-mile walk will start at 2:30 p.m., and the one-mile walk starts at 2:45.
Walkers must register with their names and church or organization. Money should be turned in the day of the walk; funds also will be accepted until Nov. 4 at Mahoning United Methodist Church.
Each church is asked to donate about three dozen cookies for the fellowship that follows the walk, which will take place rain or shine.
CROP began in 1947 under the wing of Church World Service, which was founded in 1946. An acronym for the Christian Rural Overseas Program, its main mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post-World War II Europe and Asia. Today, CROP is an acronym, retained as the historic name of the program. CROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by CWS/CROP regional offices across America.
Men’s conference

Pastor Phillip W. Shealey will host a Man 2 Man men’s conference Oct. 28-30 at Greater Apostolic Faith Church, 3571 Tod Ave., NW.
A service is planned for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28.
On Oct. 29, registration will start at 8 a.m. with seminars at 10, and a service at 7:30 p.m. will conclude the day.
Oct. 30 will feature a service at 11:30 a.m. to conclude the conference.
Registration fee is $25.

Day of Recollection

A Day of Recollection is planned Oct. 19 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., by the Infant of Prague Guild. The rosary will be at 11:45 a.m. and Mass at 12:10 p.m. Bishop George V. Murry will attend.
A dinner will follow in the cathedral hall. Reservations and payment are due by Oct. 16 with guild representatives at churches.

Butler Memorial Presbyterian Church, 126 E. Rayen Ave., will celebrate its 88th anniversary and annual fall rally Oct. 16. Guest speaker at 11 a.m. worship will be the Rev. Loran Jones. Dinner will be at 1 p.m.

Glynn Langston, founder and director of Insight International, a Braille outreach ministry, will discuss his organization Sunday at the Truckers 4 Jesus Truck Stop Ministry at Petro Truck Stop and Shopping Center.
Truck-stop services begin at 9 a.m. Free coffee and donuts are provided.
A native of Houston, Texas, Langston has been blind since birth. He graduated cum laude from Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. Through Insight International, Langston and his family provide free Biblical literature, including large-print Bibles and audio cassettes, to the visually impaired.

Maria Spencer, who was featured in ”Women of Passion: Ordinary Women Serving an Extraordinary God,” will be guest speaker at a meeting of Youngstown Chapter of Igniting New Life Ministries International, an inter-denominational ministry, on Oct. 17 in Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park. Fellowship will begin at 6 p.m., and ministry is at 6:30.

In recognition of Islamic Day in Ohio, the Islamic Center of Greater Youngstown will host an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Masjid Al-Khair, 1670 Homewood Ave. Tours of the center will be conducted along with an ethnic foods sale. Traditional handicrafts, jewelry and clothes will be displayed.

‘St. Patrick’ to speak

The Rev. Jim McKarns, one-man presenter of biblical figures such as St. Paul and St. John the Baptist, will bring the story of St. Patrick to St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., at 7 p.m. Sunday. He is the author of seven books, including “Lean Against the Wind.”
The 45-minute presentation is open to the community. A reception will follow in the social hall, where guests may meet Father McKarns.
