Embarking on his 20th year as Canfield Village Middle School fifth- and sixth-grade principal, Ron Infante welcomed students and their families to the school’s annual open house Sept. 15. Taking advantage of the cool fall weather, Infante greeted visitors as they walked up to the front doors.
“This is one of the fun parts of being principal. I get to hang out and meet and greet everyone. It’s nice to see everyone here tonight,” said Infante.
The evening gave students the opportunity to give their parents, grandparents and even some great-grandparents, a tour of the school and their classrooms. They also had the chance to meet and talk to the teachers, including expressive arts teachers.
Students’ artwork lined the hallways for viewing. Several projects focused on getting to know the students and included a Me We Project which matched two students who worked together to have two ‘me’s’ make a ‘we.’
Other projects included ‘All About Me’ posters and filling in the front page of a newspaper with a story of an important event in the students’ lives and other facts.
Mandy Zion, fifth-grade teacher, even gave the parents an idea of what the students were learning in her science class. She set up an egg soak experiment in her classroom for the parents to observe. The experiment consisted of the comparison of eggs soaked in cola, lemon juice, saltwater and vinegar.
The Canfield Village Middle School PTO had tables set up in the hallway to sell Canfield Cardinals items, including umbrellas, water bottles, book covers, pencils and rulers.
