Car sheers hydrant, driver cited with OVI
BOARDMAN
A 23-year-old Youngstown woman will be in court Tuesday, accused of driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.
Police arrived at Lane Park Road around 2 a.m. Friday and found several cars were parked around a blue vehicle in the middle of the water-soaked road, according to reports.
Police said the car, driven by Samantha Davenport, had sheered off part of a fire hydrant. A man told police he saw Davenport passed out at a traffic light at Shirley Road and Midlothian Boulevard in Youngstown, and when he knocked on the window to wake her, she took off and ran that red light, as well as the light at Lake Park and Midlothian, reports state.
Police said Davenport’s blood-alcohol level was 0.165. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08. Davenport was placed under a 90-day administrative license suspension and cited for failure to control and operating a vehicle under the influence.

Lt. Kelty punished
YOUNGSTOWN
Lt. John Kelty of the Youngstown Police Department has been disciplined by the department for submitting false overtime hours.
The discipline was mentioned in a court filing this week from Atty. J. Gerald Ingram, who represents defendants in a criminal case before Judge Maureen A. Sweeney of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
In the filing, Ingram argues that he should be allowed to question the veteran police officer on cross-examination at trial about the overtime matter because it might be evidence of his untruthfulness.
An attempt to reach Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley to obtain details of Kelty’s punishment Friday night were unsuccessful.
According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Kelty is serving a two-week unpaid suspension and must give up a week of vacation time, which will cost him about $5,000.
