Licenses for dogs will be available online
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning County commissioners have bought $57,701 worth of software from Tyler Technologies of Dallas, Texas, that will enable online dog-license purchases and expedite license processing.
Some 35,000 dogs are licensed in Mahoning County, and licenses can be purchased for $15 annually per dog from the county dog pound or auditor and at about a dozen retail locations throughout the county.
No license fees are charged for service dogs that assist disabled people.
“We’re shooting for the end of the year,” as the time people can begin online dog-license purchases here, said Linda Nyers, deputy county auditor.
“This is actually going to help the public be able to get their dog licenses in a more-expedited way,” Nyers told the commissioners.
Dog licenses go on sale Dec. 1; the purchase deadline is Jan. 31; and licenses are required for all dogs over 3 months of age.
Most licenses are purchased by mail, said Matt Ditchey, county dog warden.
Also on Thursday, the commissioners awarded a $183,880 demolition contract to Siegel Excavating LLC of Edinburg, Pa., for 13 structures in Campbell and Struthers using federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program funds.
The commissioners also awarded a $3,725 contract to Record Systems Inc. of Boardman for the purchase, installation and reconfiguration of security fencing around a county clerk of courts record-storage area at Oakhill Renaissance Place.
They also awarded a $1,273 contract to RJG Industries Inc. (Two Men and a Truck) of Boardman to move about 700 boxes of court records from the county courthouse and administration building to Oakhill.
