‘Harmonies’ exhibit, programs

YOUNGSTOWN
The Dana School of Music, in partnership with the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor (the Steel museum), will present several cultural programs to complement the Smithsonian Institution’s traveling exhibit, “New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music.” The exhibit will be at the Steel museum on Wood Street Nov. 22 to Dec. 31.
The programs include:
Saturday: Bel Canto, St. Columba Cathedral, 7:30 p.m.; reception to follow at the Steel museum.
Oct. 28: Kent Engelhardt will give a performance and lecture in early jazz at 4 p.m. in YSU’s Bliss Recital Hall
Nov. 4: Martin Berger will lecture on American jazz at 4 p.m. in Bliss Recital Hall.
Nov. 7: YSU Jazz Ensemble I will perform at 8 p.m. in YSU’s Kilcawley Center.
Nov. 9: Celebrating American Roots Music series: Live Music Brian Kiser, with the Dana Brass, will give a lecture and recital at 8 p.m. in Bliss Recital Hall.
Nov. 18: Stephanie Vander Wel of the State University of New York-Buffalo will lecture on country music at 4 p.m. in Bliss Recital Hall.
Nov. 22: Zachary Miller will perform at 6 p.m. at the Steel museum.
Nov. 27: Daniel Laginya will perform carols and give lessons at St. Columba Cathedral at 7 p.m.; a reception will follow at the Steel museum.
Nov. 28: TheYSU Zappa Ensemble, Jazz Composers Collective, and Jazz Ensemble 2 will perform at 8 p.m. at YSU’s SU, Kilcawley Center.
Dec. 3: The Malyuk Sisters will perform Celtic and old-time tunes at 7 p.m. at The Lemon Grove, 122 W. Federal St., Youngstown.
Dec. 6: Dave Morgan and Friends will perform at 7 p.m. at The Lemon Grove.
