Seeds advance in D2 tennis

All four seeded singles players advanced in the first day of the Division II sectional girls tennis tournament on Wednesday at the Boardman Tennis Center.
And, threee of the top seeds in doubles plays advanced, as well, to next week’s district tournament in Canton.
The sectional concludes on Saturday with the semifinals and finals.
In singles, Warren JFK’s Lauren Lee eliminated Paige Sperati of McDonald and Ann Smith of Ravenna, then defeated Jordan Stefko of Cardinal Mooney, 6-4, 6-2.
Liberty’s Victoria Ferry got past JFK’s Andrea Simeone and Poland’s Jenna Rindy before beating West Branch’s Madeline Mitchell, 6-0, 6-1.
Mooney had two players advance, Nicolette Arnoto and Kacey Haggerty.
On the doubles side, Megan Guliano and Dana Nocera of JFK upset the No. 4 seeded team from Struthers.
Jillian Hickey and Tessa Rowlands from Lakeview, Poland’s Amy Noll and Elise Eckman, and Mooney’s Dominique Cicchi and Jamie DiDomenico all moved on.

Boardman’s Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen advanced to the semifinals of the Division I sectional tournament Wednesday in Canton, qualifying her for the district tournament next week in Oberlin.
Kirkham-Olsen defeated Louisville’s Gretchen Groves (6-2, 6-0) and Jackson’s Katherine Devine (6-3, 6-3).
Also, Canfield’s Allison Pavlansky and Gabrielle Brant advanced with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jackson, qualifying for the district tournament in the process.
The semifinals and finals will be played on Saturday.
