OSHP seizes nearly $15M worth of cocaine on Ohio Turnpike
MAUMEE, Ohio — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized 148 kilos of cocaine, valued at $14.8 million, after a traffic stop in Lucas County last month.
Troopers stopped a 1999 SRSFD motor home, with California registration, for a marked lanes violation eastbound on the Ohio Turnpike at 10:41 a.m. Sept. 8. Criminal indicators were observed and a Patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted to the vehicle.
A probable-cause search revealed the 148 kilos of cocaine located in a steel compartment in the floor of the motor home.
This incident is still under investigation by the patrol and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. A patrol official said the information is just now being released after an ongoing investigation.
