Extras are needed for this movie about an orphan visited by an angel who helps her make a choice that will change the course of time for humanity. “Shine! The Horatio Alger Musical,SDRq Weathervane Playhouse, 1301 Weathervane Lane, Akron. The performance, which will feature Tony Award-winner Hal Linden, requires a large ensemble of boys, girls, men and women from age 15 to 70. Auditions will be at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. Sunday; call 330-836-2626 to schedule and be prepared to stay for the hour. Show date is 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7. Proceeds will benefit Weathervane Playhouse and Mainstreet Musicals, a New York-based, nonprofit organization that coordinates a network of local-theater festivals.

“Next to Normal,SDRq Spotlight Players at Salem Masonic Temple, 788 E. State St., Salem. Auditions will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 17. All six roles are open. There will be no accompanist.
