Report: 2 dead, 4 injured in Calif quarry shooting
CUPERTINO, Calif. (AP) — An employee opened fire at a meeting at a Northern California quarry early today, killing two people and injuring four others, authorities said.
Santa Clara County sheriff’s officials confirmed the shooting at the Permanente Quarry in Cupertino, according to KGO-TV. The suspect was reportedly still at large this morning.
Calls to sheriff’s officials by The Associated Press were not immediately returned.
Santa Clara Valley Medical Center spokeswoman Joy Alexiou said the hospital received two of the victims, who were in good and fair condition. Their names and the extent of their wounds were not immediately released.
One victim was taken to the emergency room at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, according to spokeswoman Paula Zimlicki.
The hospital cannot release any details about the patient or the patient’s injuries, she said.
According to the Santa Clara County website, Permanente Quarry is a limestone and aggregate mining operation and cement plant located in the foothills above Cupertino.
