Defense questioning expected in corruption trial

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Defense lawyers in Pennsylvania’s government corruption trial are expected to continue questioning a former top aide to former House Speaker John Perzel.

Today is the third day of testimony by William Tomaselli, a one-time “special projects coordinator” for Perzel.

On Tuesday, Tomaselli described a plan for Perzel to run for governor that never materialized and answered detailed questions about the purchase and use of computer technology by the House Republican caucus.

Perzel and five other former defendants have pleaded guilty in the case nicknamed “computergate.”

They are cooperating with prosecutors in the trial of three people formerly connected to the caucus who are charged with illegally spending millions of taxpayer dollars on technology to help elect more Republicans to the House.
