YOUNGSTOWN

The price of gas in the Mahoning Valley dropped 10 cents during the past week.

The price for a gallon of regular-grade gas costs $3.33, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report.

That’s down from $3.43 last week but still higher than the state average.

The average cost of gas was $3.20 in Ohio. That’s down 12 cents from the average of $3.32 per gallon a week ago. It’s almost a dollar lower than the record high of $4.16 that drivers paid in May.

Nationwide, the average cost of regular gas is $3.42.

Wheatland workers ratify new contract

Sharon, PA.

The union comprising nearly 400 Wheatland Tube workers has ratified a new five-year agreement with the company.

United Steelworkers Local 1660 President Andy Harkulich said union members voted late Sunday 376-33 in favor of the contract, which calls for raises totaling $2.50 an hour by the end of the contract.

“As long as the company continues to improve and invest and we continue to get a fair deal, we’ll keep agreeing to contracts,” Harkulich said.

UAW Local 1714 still negotiating deal

United Auto Workers Local 1714 still is negotiating a new local contract.

President Dave Green told The Vindicator on Monday that the two sides are close to a deal. Local contracts deal primarily with working conditions.

“This week for sure, we’ll be ready to get that information out, and we’ll have an agreement,” he said.

Local 1714 has approximately 1,450 workers. UAW Local 1112, with about 3,200 workers, ratified its local agreement last week. Both sides have ratified the new four-year national pact.

Jobs meeting set

The Mahoning County One-Stop, 149 Boardman-Canfield Road, will host a two-hour orientation from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday for anyone interested in applying for positions at Industrial Waste Control Inc., an industrial-cleaning company.

Open positions include driver/operator, pump operator and mechanic.

The driver/operator and pump operator positions require a Class A Commercial Drivers License. They pay between $14 and $18 per hour.

The mechanic position requires a Class B CDL and pays $12 to $16 an hour.

Positions include benefits, 401(k) and vacation.

New store opens

GROVE CITY, PA.

The Longaberger Co. has opened a new store at 1911 Leesburg Grove City Road, Suite 603, at Grove City Premium Outlets.

The nearly 3,000-square- foot store features handcrafted baskets, pottery, wrought iron and high-quality home and specialty foods, dinnerware and candles.

Store hours at the Premium Outlets location are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

A grand-opening event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Friday.
