Bristol Elementary School’s sixth-grade chance auction will take place Nov. 4 in the school cafeteria, 1845 state Route 88, Bristolville. Doors open at 5 p.m., drawings start at 7. Admission is $3 and includes 10 tickets. Additional tickets will be five for $1. The concession stand will be open and baked goods will be sold. All proceeds go toward the sixth-grade trip to Washington, D.C.
St. Rose Church will have a Quarter Auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 13 in Rosetta Hall,48 E. Main St. A $5 entrance fee will be charged, with seating limited, so buy your tickets now. Ursuline High School will have its ninth annual auction, “Celebrate Our Legacy,” Nov. 5 in the Ursuline gymnasium. BOOK SALES
Hubbard Friends of the Library mega Book Sale is set for this week, beginning with a preview from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today. Friends members will be admitted free; admission for nonmembers is $5. All other days, admission is free. Hours those days will be 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; hours Friday and Saturday will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thousands of books will be available for purchase, with no increase in price this year: hardbacks are $1, paperbacks and children’s books, 25 cents. Shepherd of the Valley-Niles is seeking vendors for its annual craft show from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 11. This year, vendors are asked to bring an item for the USO Holiday Boxes program. The USO sends the boxes to troops stationed overseas, including the most remote postings. Suggestions include treats, greeting cards, holiday decorations, DVDs and CDs and hand and feet warmers. The Croatian Home/Center in Youngstown will have its first Croatian-style Octoberfest Saturday. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Admission is $3. Vendors will offer a variety of fall food and decorative items including frozen apple and cheese strudels, homemade horseradish, homemade kolbasi and autumn decor, such as mums, pumpkins, corn stalks, gourds and Indian corn. An Amish vendor will sell homemade canned items and dried flowers. A bake sale will feature freshly baked apple strudel, cheese gibanica, pumpkin desserts, hand-dipped chocolate and caramel apples and hot apple crisp with ice cream. A beer taste will offer a variety of selected beers for a nominal fee, and a food-to-go station will offer frozen cevapcici, sarma, chicken noodle soup and beans and sauerkraut soup to take out. A kitchen will offer meals, including fried bologna sandwiches, haluski and chicken and dumplings. Order forms for the annual Thanksgiving pie sale will be available.
