Family variety night

U.N. Act will present a free family variety show at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Youngstown Playhouse, 600 Playhouse Lane. The show consists of three sections. The first are all ages free dance classes taught by Brandon Martin and Jamie Lidberg. The second section is an open stage where people of all ages are encouraged to perform a family friendly talent. The third part is a set from the featured artist, singer Carla Gipson.

Tickets go on sale Friday for Mannheim Steamroller’s Dec. 9 concert at the Covelli Centre.

Grammy Award-winner and mastermind behind the group, Chip Davis, will direct and co-produce the performances with Magicspace Entertainment. There are two tour ensembles of Mannheim Steamroller to meet the continued and increasing demand for the annual holiday celebration. The shows will feature the favorite Christmas music of Mannheim Steamroller along with state-of-the-art multimedia effects.

Canfield Historical Society continues its Fall Lecture Series with an “Erma Bombeck” lecture by Sis Soller at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 in Canfield Historical Society’s Bond House, 44 W. Main St.
Soller has been active in art and theater for 40 years and is the founder and president of Mahoning Valley Watercolor Society. She will discuss the American novelist, columnist and humorist Erma Bombeck who achieved popularity for her newspaper column that described suburban home life from the mid-1960s until the mid-1990s.
The next speaker will be Nov. 19 Tim Brookes whose topic is Pretty Boy Floyd.
