AUSTINTOWN
A commercial motor vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Austintown resulted in the spilling of 100 gallons of diesel fuel onto the highway Sunday night.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a truck traveling eastbound on I-80 just east of the I-680 southbound on-ramp lost control, jackknifed and struck a guardrail. A truck behind it swerved to avoid the wrecked vehicle. Neither driver was injured.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Austintown fire and police departments, Mahoning County HAZMAT Team and the Ohio Department of Transportation responded to the scene. Sun Pro, a local chemical cleanup company, handled the removal of the diesel fuel.
The eastbound lane remained closed late last night during the cleanup, according to the patrol.
The crash remains under investigation.
