No. 2 Oklahoma 62, Ball St. 6

NORMAN, OKLA.

Landry Jones threw for 425 yards and five touchdowns, Tony Jefferson fueled a second-quarter scoring surge with three interceptions and second-ranked Oklahoma geared up for its rivalry game against Texas next week by beating Ball State. Jones had touchdown passes of 64 yards to Ryan Broyles and 56 yards to Jaz Reynolds a minute apart in the third quarter during the second high-volume scoring stretch for the Sooners (4-0).

Ohio 17, Kent State 10

ATHENS

Tyler Tettleton threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns as Ohio held off Kent to start a season 4-1 for the first time since 1997. Tettleton needed 252 yards to move into second place all-time for passing yards by a Bobcats sophomore and has 1,200. By winning the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams Ohio is 3-0 at home for the first time since 2005, Frank Solich’s first season as head coach. After the Golden Flashes (1-4) took a 7-3 lead on a 1-yard run by Spencer Keith with 4:01 to go before halftime, LaVon Brazill caught a 4-yard touchdown pass to put the Bobcats ahead for good.

Eastern Michigan 31, Akron 23

YPSILANTI, MICH.

Dominique White ran for 164 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday, leading Eastern Michigan. White scored twice, on runs of 14 and 1 yards, to give the Eagles (3-2, 1-0 Mid-American) a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. Clayton Moore threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Keith Sconiers for the Zips (1-4, 0-2) to cut the deficit in half. White’s third TD run, a 2-yarder, gave Eastern Michigan a 24-10 lead on its first drive of the third quarter. Quarterback Alex Gillett scored the final touchdown for the Eagles, on a 4-yard run with 12:43 left to make it 31-16.

Toledo 36, Temple 13

PHILADELPHIA

David Fluellen scored two touchdowns to help Toledo score 21 unanswered points. After a Dwight Macon touchdown gave Toledo a 22-13 lead, Fluellen caught a 20-yard pass from Austin Dantin to put the Rockets ahead 29-13 in the third quarter. Fluellen then scored again on a 1-yard run to extend the lead to 36-16 and seal the victory for Toledo (2-3). Fluellen finished with four catches for 67 yards and added 41 yards rushing on eight carries. Morgan Williams, who took over for injured All-MAC running back Adonis Thomas, controlled the Toledo rushing attack, gaining 130 yards on 20 carries. Temple (3-2) managed to gain 145 yards on the ground but the offense struggled to reach the end zone, as all seven of their second half possessions ended in either a punt or turnover.

Tennessee 41, Buffalo 10

KNOXVILLE, TENN.

Tyler Bray threw four touchdowns, Da’Rick Rogers caught two of them and DeAnthony Arnett caught two more as Tennessee beat Buffalo. The Vols (3-1) got their first test without top wide receiver Justin Hunter, who is out for the season with a torn ACL suffered in a loss at Florida. Bray, who was 21 for 30 piled up 342 yards mostly by throwing long to Rogers, who finished with 180 yards on seven catches. Bray’s four touchdowns marked the 10th consecutive game he’s thrown for multiple scores. Tauren Poole had 101 yards rushing for the Vols. Buffalo (1-4) couldn’t do much against Tennessee’s speed. The Bills gained just 264 yards compared to the Vols’ 531.

Central Michigan 48, Northern Illinois 41

MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH.

Ryan Radcliff threw for 387 yards and four long touchdowns, Paris Cotton added 110 yards and a score on the ground, and Central Michigan escaped with a wild victory. Radcliff found Courtney Williams on a 79-yard strike in the first quarter as the Chippewas (2-3, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) built a 17-0 lead.
