Hubbard grad presents research
Kent
Alyssa Johnston, a 2008 graduate of Hubbard High and a biotechnology major at Kent State University’s Honors College, has been asked to present her undergraduate research for her honors senior thesis in March to the National American Chemical Society Meeting in San Diego.
Johnston’s research specifically targets cancer cells, leaving normal, healthy cells untouched. This selectively targeted delivery system alleviates the common side effects seen in chemotherapeutics today such as hair loss and inflammation of the lining of the digestive track. Johnston recently presented her research to students, doctors and researchers at NASA’S Glen Research Center in Cleveland.
After graduation this spring, she will continue her education in the research and medical field, where she aspires to receive a doctorate in Translational Biology and Molecular Medicine. She is the daughter of Jeffrey Johnston of Hubbard and Drina Bucher of Wichita, Kan.
