Students, parents can help schools win $50,000 in texting contest

Howland and Niles McKinley high schools have a chance to win $50,000 from Verizon Wireless if local fans can cheer loudest through texting.

Through the Verizon Wireless High School TXT2Win contest, students, parents and fans of Niles McKinley High School need to send a text message to 66861 with the school’s special contest code, MCKHS, or visit www.vzwrules.com/highschool to vote online and increase the school’s odds of winning.

Howland students, parents and fans should send a text message to 66861 with the school’s code, HOW, or visit the website to vote online.

Niles and Howland will be competing against 70 other high schools from Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

The school with the most votes by Nov. 4 wins the $50,000 prize, but all participating schools will receive a $1,000 donation at an upcoming sporting event.
