Currents of air whooshed out of the Boardman library activity room repeatedly on Aug. 31, thanks to 41 excited guests who flung giant colorful canvases up and down during the facility’s Parachute Family Story time.
Librarian Karen Saunders entertained the group with a short storytime and special rendition of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
However, the highlight of the event came when Saunders passed out three colorful parachutes to groups of different ages.
Each team stretched the parachutes between each group member and bounced an inflatable globe and stuffed animals on the stretched canvas.
Each group then took a seat and placed the parachute over their legs and knees. The parents and kids played a hide-and-go-seek game with a stuffed dog wearing a collar of bells, so each guest could find the dog by following the sound.
At the close of the event, each guest received a popsicle so that they could cool off from all the vigorous activity.
With Aug. 31 offering an unofficial end of summer, librarian Saunders considered the successes of the facility’s summer reading program as her event came to a close.
“It’s been a great summer for reading. We’ve had a lot of faithful young readers, and each week, the groups have grown better and better,” Saunders shared.
