Vigil for victims of violence set Monday
Youngstown
Sojourner House Domestic Violence Program is having its annual candlelight vigil at noon Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
This year’s theme, “I’m doing me!” will feature statements by survivors of domestic violence and guest speaker Martha Katz, who will discuss where the shelter began and where it is going.
In 1990 Katz was appointed by Mahoning County commissioners to a committee that was asked to evaluate services for families affected by domestic violence which led to the creation of Sojourner House.
Sojourner is asking vigil attendees to consider donating diapers, paper products and personal hygiene products for shelter residents. The shelter has been at capacity for more than four months, and those items are in great demand.
