New Castle school gets $53,000 grant

New Castle Junior/Senior High School was awarded a nearly $53,000 State Farm Youth Advisory Board grant for a teen-driver-safety service learning campaign this school year.
It was the only Pennsylvania school to receive one of the grants. The school also will receive an additional $1,000 grant as a Tier 3 Leader School in the State Farm Project Ignition competition.
State Farm representatives Doug Griffith, Jim Hinkle and Mark Hasson presented the check to team members. Mayor Anthony Mastrangelo read a proclamation for Teen Driver Safety Week in Lawrence County to coincide with the national event Oct. 16-22, always the 3rd week in October; a member of U.S. Rep. Jason Altmire’s staff presented a proclamation to the Project Ignition Team for their efforts in promoting safe driving; state Rep. Chris Sainato thanked State Farm for providing the funds to New Castle, a school in his district, the past four years; a member of state Sen. Elder Vogel Jr.’s staff also attended to show support for the group; Superintendent George Gabriel, Principal Richard Litrenta and Project Ignition advisor Donna Campbell spoke about the award.
