Ten-year-old Canfield native Jacob Hostetter is a huge football fan. With his parents, Charles and Denise Hostetter, he’s attended years of Youngstown State football games and loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite some of the challenges he faces with cerebral palsy, Jacob takes his love of the game to the football field, playing for the Canfield Little Cardinals 120-pound team.

Jacob takes his role as a Little Cardinal very seriously.

“He’s a very hard worker. He goes to practice every day, two hours a day with his teammates, and we’ve never missed a game,” explained Jacob’s dad, Charles.

The coaches in the Canfield youth football organization have noticed Hostetter’s dedication and the young player has played in many junior varsity games and two varsity games. No matter where he plays, Jacob’s coaches and teammates have always welcomed him as part of the team.

During a Sept. 18 game against the Austintown Colts, Hostetter added another milestone to his list of accomplishments.

In the last moments of the game, Hostetter joined his team on the field. He found his way through the Colts defense and scored the first touchdown of his football career.

“Jacob definitely plans on continuing in his favorite sport. He’s always working hard and focusing on becoming a better player,” shared Charles.
