Canfield runners excel at Suburban League meets
The Canfield cross country teams recently competed in four events.
On Sept. 13, the high school teams traveled to Columbiana for a regular season Suburban League meet. The boys’ team finished third out of 10 teams. Placing for the boys were Michael Solomon (31st), Stephan Gant (33rd), Alec Kennedy (36th), Alex Nischwitz (41nd), Gary Zamary (46th), Richie Abel (49th) and Tim Fernstrom (50th).
The boys improved their overall record on the season to 19-6.
The girls’ team placed sixth out of 11 teams. Placing for the girls were Anna Luongo (26th), Hannah Nischwitz (36th), Kathryn Zetts (38th), Victoria Bosze(43rd), Kaitlin Dastoli (52nd), Emily Burton, (53rd) and Sarah Wyand (54th).
The girls improved their overall record on the season to 16-8.
On Sept. 17, the high school and middle school teams participated in the annual Spartan Invitational at Boardman. The middle school girls placed first overall out of 18 teams. The top six teams were Canfield (110), North Canton (126), Brunswick (127), Louisville (135), Twinsburg (154) and Richland (160).
The top 10 finishers for Canfield were Rachel Rostek (6th), Jenny McClune (8th), Victoria Pacheco (10th), Marissa Cashbaugh (36th), Raquel Markulin (50th), Katelyn Yohman (86th), Londyn Glass (90th), Kortni Hyde (93rd), Rosie Bresson (94th) and Sloan Ferguson (101st). A total of 247 runners started the race.
The middle school boys team placed seventh out of 17 teams. The top team scores were Boardman (79), Louisville (99), Austintown (128), North Canton (145), Richland (160), Twinsburg (173) and Canfield (214). The top eight finishers for the boys were Chase Kern (1st), Tommy Donadee (37th), Victor Stefanides (53rd), Slava Lefoer (57th), Dan Sylak (71st), Tyler Napolitano (79th), Pete Crescimanno (85th) and Andrew Bell (110th). A total of 226 runners started the race.
The high school boys competed in the Division I open race and finished 25th out of 31 teams. A total of 575 runners started the race. Scoring for Canfield were Mike Solomon (141st), Stephen Gant (142nd), Gary Zamary (150th), Alec Kennedy (169th), Alex Nischwitz (176th), Richie Abel (178th) and Kyle Anderson (181st).
The high school girls also competed in the Division I open race and finished 18th out of 22 teams. A total of 480 girls started the race. Scoring for Canfield were Hannah Nischwitz (92nd), Kathryn Zetts (104th), Emily Burton (105th), Kaitlin Dastoli (108th), Anna Luongo (114th), Victoria Bosze (124th) and Angelina Sorice (135th).
On Sept. 20th, the high school and middle school squads competed in the Suburban League Championships at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The middle school girls placed first overall out of 19 teams. The top four teams were Canfield (52), McDonald (58), Howland (95) and South Range (155).
The top 10 finishers for Canfield were Jenny McClune (fourth), Rachel Rostek (fifth), Victoria Pacheco (eighth), Marissa Cashbaugh (18th), Raquel Markulin (22nd), Cecilia Shaer (38th), Sloan Ferguson (54th), Katelyn Yohman (63rd), Rosie Bresson (80th) and Londyn Glass (81st). A total of 214 runners finished the race.
The middle school boys team placed fourth out of 21 teams. The top four team scores were Boardman (71), Austintown (85), Maplewood (117) and Canfield (214). The top nine finishers for the boys were Chase Kern (fourth), Ryan Motolenich (25th), Tommy Donadee (26th), Victor Stefanides (31st), Pete Crescimanno (64th), Slava Lefoer (81st), Dan Sylak (82nd), Tyler Napolitano (84th), and Andrew Bell (94th). A total of 224 runners finished the race.
The high school girls team placed second out of 25 teams. The top four teams were Poland (35), Canfield (102), Howland (107) and Maplewood (117). Scoring for the girls team were Bailey Fischer (9th), Emma Lunne (10th), Sydney Miller (13th), Jen Love (28th), Marla Marucci (51st), Hannah Nischwitz (77th) and Lindsay Tapia (88th). A total of 233 runners finished the race.
The high school boys team finished 10th out of 24 teams. Scoring for the boys team were Rollin Bresson (31st), Nick Tocicki (49th), Tyler Kennedy (57th), Rajan Solanki (73rd), Andy Russo (77th), Gary Zaamry (90th) and Stephan Gant (91st). A total of 316 runners finished the race.
On Sept. 24, the high school teams traveled to Niles to participate in the Niles Invitational. The girls team placed first out of seven teams. Top three teams were Canfield (32), Howland (34) and Jefferson (91). Scoring for Canfield were Emma Lunne (first), Bailey Fischer (third), Sydney Miller (fifth), Jen Love (seventh), Marla Marucci (16th), Hannah Nischwitz (21st) and Anna Luongo (24th).
The boys team placed third out of seven teams the top three teams were Howland (32), Jefferson (68) and Canfield (70). Scoring for the boys team were Jon Hutnyan (third), Rollin Bresson (nineth), Nick Tocicki (15th), Tyler Kennedy (21st), Andy Russo (22nd), Bryan Kristan (31st) and Rajan Solanki (36th).
