In the arts building during the 2011 Canfield Fair, a Poland native’s intricate city-scape drawing stopped many people in their tracks. Nick Begnaud’s graphite drawing, detailing a busy New York City street in Little Italy, was so precise many thought it was a photograph.
The piece brought the Poland artist a Best in Show prize in the professional art division at the fair.
“I started and finished ‘Little Italy’ last December for an English teacher of mine from MCCTC, Donna Greer. I love to draw cityscapes and working to get the faces, people and the busyness of the scene just right. Greer loves New York City, so my inspiration started there,” explained Begnaud.
Although his roots are in the Valley, Begnaud has achieved big things since attending Poland High School and MCCTC, graduating in 2007. Begnaud is a recent graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design, where he majored in film and television writing. Though his film career is just starting, he has already been commissioned to write a film being produced in Santa Barbara, Calif.
While he can often be found drawing, Begnaud’s focus is now on growing his writing career. The summer of 2011 was spent writing short scripts, commercial ads and outlines and drafts of longer, future pieces.
“I’m putting in the work until I can be called on for my dream job — writing an original story. For now, I’m starting with film and television work in New York City. As long as I can tell a story and help others tell theirs, I’ll be happy,” he shared.
