Mooney’s Love named state’s best on defense

Junior linebacker Courtney Love of Cardinal Mooney, who will be playing in the state championship game on Friday, has been named co-defensive player in Division III by The Associated Press.

Love (6-foot-2, 225 pounds) shares the honor with Adolphus Washington of Cincinnati Taft and Najee Murray of Steubenville.

The All-Ohio teams are voted on by a panel of sports writers and broadcasters around the state.

Love was joined on the Div. III first team by teammate Austin Trgovcich, a 6-3, 290 senior offensive lineman.

The Cardinals (10-3) will play Springfield Shawnee (14-0) for the state championship at Fawcett Stadium in Canton.

Two other Mooney players were named to the All-Ohio team: Defensive back Ryan Farragher (6-2, 185), a senior, was named third team, and Marcus McWilson was selected special mention.

Also named to the team, as special mention honorees, were Darius Harris, Frank Saban and Patrick Barrett of Niles; Jordan Voitus of Poland; and Anthony Pesce, Jeremy Kerola and Tyler Karabin of Hubbard.

In Div. IV, Girard senior quarterback Dan Graziano and Brookfield running back Ryan Mosora were named second team on offense. Graziano, a 5-10, 185 quarterback, led the Indians to a 9-1 record and a berth in the playoffs. Mosora (5-11, 185, junior) led the Warriors to similar achievements.

Girard was also represented by senior kicker David Meigs (5-10, 170) on the third team and special mention honorees Alex Walp, Ahmad Eggleston and A.J. Devore.

Brookfield’s Mark Hiner and Jimmy Quinlan were also selected special mention.

LaBrae was represented by third team honorees Paul Zigmont (6-1, 180, junior) on the defensive line, and Zack Miller (5-9, 185, senior) at linebacker, and Matt Szorady was named special mention.

Also selected special mention were Elijah Henderson and Austin Haines of Lakeview, and Cody Dillon of Newton Falls.
