I-680 reopens after fuel truck crash

YOUNGSTOWN

Interstate 680 northbound at South Avenue reopened at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday after a fuel truck crashed into a median and leaked its contents on the road.

The accident occurred just before noon Tuesday, said Justin Chesnic, Ohio Department of Transportation District 4 spokesman.

“We used some sand and dry clear to clean the road and since it’s raining, it wasn’t as effective. The road is a little slippery but we have message boards alerting motorists about the conditions,” he said.

Crews will be at the scene for the next several hours, Chesnic said.

The truck did not leak a lot of fuel, but it took extra time to drain the tank and transfer the fuel to another truck, he said.
