10-year-old Pa. girl asks for gifts for needy

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — A 10-year-old western Pennsylvania girl has celebrated her birthday by giving gifts to other children.

The Punxsutawney Spirit reports that Taegan Ludwig felt it would be “greedy” to receive gifts at her birthday party on Nov. 19 and instead asked them to donate any gifts they planned to bring to Toys for Tots. The charity provides Christmas gifts for needy children.

Taegan tells the newspaper, “Instead of receiving gifts for myself, I decided to give gifts to others.”

The 36 donated gifts included dolls, stuffed animals and books.

Taegan and her guests did partake in the other normal party fare, including cake and a disc jockey.

Punxsutawney is best known for its annual Groundhog Day celebration.
