A summary of recent criminal activity in the city of Canfield City and Austintown:
CANFIELD
Nov. 17
Theft: A Parkside Circle woman told police a check for $448.61 was stolen and cashed. The transaction appears to have been part of a fraud by alleged representatives of Medicare.
Nov. 18
Mutual aid: Police dogs were dispatched on a mutual-aid call for the Mahoning County Sheriff Department to sniff out drugs in a vehicle. Police found flavored rolling cigar paper and fresh suspected marijuana residue and charged the suspect driving the car in the city with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Nov. 19
Warrant: Police charged Sharon Ballard, 42, of Canton with drug abuse of marijuana and falsification and arrested her on a warrant from Stark County for forgery and passing bad checks.
Nov. 22
Theft: Two black urn-style planter pots were stolen from the front of Burns, O’Hare & Bella Inc., 565 N. Broad St.
Nov. 26
Drug offense: Police charged Samuel Scarpino, 19, of Canton, with possession of drug paraphernalia, and Alexander Welch, 18, of North Canton, with possession of drug paraphernalia after their arrest in the city.
AUSTINTOWN
Nov. 21
Attempted burglary: A window was pried open and broken at an apartment in the 1000 block of Compass West.
Theft: A flag pole and signs were stolen from R&J Tire, 3606 Canfield Road.
Breaking and entering: A truck and vacuum machine were taken from a fenced-in lot at Roth Bros., 3847 Crum Road. The truck was located later in Twinsburg.
Menacing: A victim reported being stalked at an apartment in the 4000 block of Westchester Drive.
Theft: A woman had two of her checks cashed for $500 at a home in the 3000 block of Starwick Drive.
Theft: A Playstation3 and games were stolen at Get-Go, 5163 Mahoning Ave.
Breaking and entering: Bolt cutters were taken along with scrap metal at a home in the 4000 block of Washington Square.
Criminal damaging: Four tires were damaged at a home in the 4000 block of Washington Square.
Nov. 22
Telecommunications harassment: Telephone harassment was reported at a home in the 3000 block of Johnson Farm.
Theft: Vicodin was taken from an apartment in the 4000 block of Deer Creek.
Domestic violence: A 15-year-old female was taken to the Martin P. Joyce Juvenile Justice Center for committing the crime at a home in the 4000 block of Sheffield Drive.
Passing bad checks: A suspect purchased a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer and gave Fred Martin Ford, 4701 Mahoning Ave., a check for $2,700. The suspect later returned the vehicle and purchased a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, and then stopped payment on the check.
Nov. 23
Burglary: Damage to a door frame was reported but nothing was missing at a home in the 1000 block of N. Niles-Canfield Road.
Theft: Sections of pipe were taken from a vacant lot in the 800 block of Ohltown Road.
Theft: An iPhone was stolen at Austintown Fitch High School, 4560 Falcon Drive.
Drug offense: Police issued a summons to Christopher Cronin,27, of 2325 Sussex St. SE, Warren, for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Menacing: A man is accused of menacing at a home in the 4000 block of Pembrook Road.
Theft: A 1987 Chevrolet pickup truck and an Ohio dealer plate were stolen from D&L Auto Sales, 1213 N. Canfield-Niles Road.
Recovered property: Maine license plates were recovered on Salt Springs Road at Meridian Road.
Theft: A total of $30.75 in fuel was stolen at Country Fair, 1143 N. Canfield-Niles Road.
Nov. 24
Drug arrests: Police charged Eric Johnson, 26, of 69 Westminster Ave., No. 26, with tampering with evidence, drug abuse of cocaine and permitting drug abuse, and Sharon Kosko, 50, of 50 Westminster Ave., No. 18, with drug abuse of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia after their arrest in the township.
Nov. 25
Theft: A 17-year-old juvenile was released to his parents for theft at Wal-Mart, 6001 Mahoning Ave.
Attempted theft: Two men broke into a vehicle at a home in the 60 block of Carnegie Avenue. One, a 17-year-old juvenile, was caught by the homeowner.
Criminal trespassing: Police charged Vivian Warren, 44, of 718 Olivette St., Youngstown, with the crime after her arrest at the TA Travel Center, 5400 Seventy-Six Drive.
Theft: Two rings were stolen at an apartment in the 800 block of Compass West.
Warrant: Police arrested Seth Leach, 36, homeless, on a warrant for assault.
Warrant: Police arrested Gary Stake II, 34, of 17633 Lundy’s Lane, Lake Milton, on an assault charge.
Nov. 26
Drug offense: Police charged Connor Fry, 19, of 1452 S. Meridian Road, with possession of marijuana, and Zachary Bukovi, 20, of 2052 S. Raccoon Road, also with possession of marijuana after their arrest in the township.
Drug offense: Three people were arrested on drug charges. Marie Hogan, 21, of 381 Hunt Road, New Castle, Pa., was charged with possession of marijuana; Allycia Tilletski, 25, of 853 Frank Ave., New Castle, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia; and Mitchell Kiser, 21, of 1108 New Castle St., Butler, Pa., charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, after their arrest in the township.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle was keyed at a home in the 3000 block of Burkey Road.
Nov. 27
Theft: An Ohio driver’s license and front and rear plates were stolen from an auto in the car port in the 50 block of Westminster Avenue.
Drug offense: Police charged Michael Ploskodniak, 32, of 1655 Ohltown-McDonald Road, Niles, with possession of synthetic marijuana.
Robbery: A woman is accused of punching a victim and taking a wallet and cellphone in the 4000 block of Deer Creek Court.
Theft: Police charged Michael Pendland, 24, of 261 S. Main St., in the theft of a $105.68 Garmin GPS at Walmart.
Theft: A television was stolen from a home in the 4000 block of Woodhurst Drive.
Theft: Jewelry was stolen from an auto parked at a home in the 5000 block of Argonne Drive.
Theft: A debit card was stolen and used at Shotz, 3713 Oakwood Ave.
Criminal damaging: Siding was damaged at a home in the 3000 block of Edinburgh Drive.
Theft: A theft was reported at a home in the 4000 block of Woodhurst Drive.
