Truck donated to Helping Other Women

YOUNGSTOWN

Humility of Mary Health Partners donated a used box truck with a lift gate to Helping Other Women nonprofit organization.

The organization collects gently used home furnishings and housewares and distributes them to families in need, primarily underprivileged women with children, in the greater Youngstown area.

The truck will be used by HOW, 2217 Mahoning Ave., to pick up donations and deliver furniture to families who don’t have the means to pick it up.

HM Home Health Services, a division of HMHP, used the truck, a 2001 Ford F350, to deliver home medical equipment to patients throughout the tri-county area. The truck was retired from service late this summer.

HMHP employees first became involved with HOW during the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s Day of Caring last year when they volunteered to help HOW organize its warehouse.

During the project, HMHP volunteers discovered how not having access to a box truck limited donations to HOW and therefore, the number of needy families the organization could serve.

This truck will enable HOW volunteers to increase collections of donated home furnishings because they will no longer be restricted by the weather, said Don Koenig, HMHP executive vice president of operations.
