Bank offers tips to prevent ID theft

COLUMBUS

Huntington Bank has published tips for consumers to help protect against identity theft during the holiday shopping season.

Consumers should check bank and credit-card accounts every day to confirm activity.

Shoppers also should be forewarned to watch out for “look-alike” companies and businesses that provide little information about their background. Legitimate companies do not ask for information via email or pop-up ads.

Consumers should provide personal information only to secure websites (they begin with https) and should not respond to email inquiries to “confirm a purchase.”

Shoppers are urged to keep a paper trail of all purchases by saving receipts. They should not share passwords with anyone and should make sure computer-security software is up-to-date.
